[caption id="attachment_16100" align="alignleft" width="300" caption="Named #1 by Bon Appétit"][/caption] If you haven't been to HUSK, located at 76 Queen Street in downtown Charleston, you now have one more reason to go. Bon Appétit's Andrew Knowlton, who helps foodies find the best-of-the-best, has honored our very own HUSK as the #1 Best New Restaurant in 2011 in the country. Sean Brock, of McCrady's fame (another fabulous Charleston restaurant), conceived the "farm to table" concept and gave birth to the idea in November 2010 when HUSK opened its doors. Sean selected a run-down, historic Victorian home on Queen Street and, with every detail given ...
July 4th at Kiawah Island...Read more
July 4, 2011 was my first time to go to the festivities at Kiawah Island's Night Heron Park. Why so long? It seemed like such a trek out to Main/Bohicket/Betsy Kerrison Road just to see some fireworks for twenty minutes and then make the precarious drive back at night. However, some friends were going and I decided to tag along, especially since they were driving. It was a breeze through the Kiawah gate and parking was not a problem at Night Heron Park, where the festivities and initial blasts of fireworks were to happen. They certainly know how to throw a ...
A Day at the 2011 Family Circle Cup...Read more
I made my very first journey to the Family Circle Cup this year for a variety of reasons. 1) I am not a huge tennis fan although in my younger knee years I enjoyed playing weekend tennis with friends 2) I envisioned a chaotic mass of people pushing and shoving their way throughout the day 3) I could not justify paying the ticket price to endure the crowd, the heat, the parking, and all of these supported by my lack of enthusiasm for the game 4) And the best reason, a friend gave me a Terrace seat ticket! My thoughts wander ...

See the US NAVY Blue Angels show off over Charleston Harbor...Read more
I've been attending Blue Angels (US Navy) and Thunderbirds (USAF) acrobatic shows since I was a 4 year old, dozens of times over, and never have I seen them so close or so dramatic in their precision over a populated area... and Greater Charleston turned out in force on the water in boats, in the parks and docks and especially on the deck of the USS Yorktown to produce more sincere oohs and ahhhs then one could ever imagine... unless they too were there. I can still hear the chorus ringing in my ears... "I had no idea"..... "I am ...

10 Free “Must See” Places You’ve Probably Never Really Seen…...Read more
The cobbler's kids have no shoes, the chef's eats out every night, and Greater Charlestonians never visit the hidden gems of our beautiful community. It's a funny thing about human nature... we seldom truly appreciate what we have right in front of us. And yet most of us don't even frequent the major attractions like the Garden-of-Eden-like Middleton Place Gardens, or the outrageously moving USS Yorktown, or.... heaven forbid... the beach! Yes, that's right. It's unlikely that even 20% of us can say we sat in the sand last summer. If you're a local and are saying, "no way," then ...
