Brickyard Plantation off Hwy. 17 in Mount Pleasant has one of the most impressive brick entrances of any neighborhood. With two pools, a boat landing on Horlbeck Creek takes you out to the Wando River, boat storage, 5 tennis courts, a basketball court, a soccer field and walking trails, residents have a variety of outdoor activities of which to choose. You’ll see many full brick or brick front homes, which is indicative of the “brickyard”, having been the site where prior generations slaved over the brick kilns for the plantation owners’ housing needs in the area. One of the chimneys remains standing in the neighborhood.
