Greater Charleston’s Amber Caparas goes Gold on American Idol 9!

College of Charleston student/West Ashley High School grad Amber Caparas (19), auditioned in Atlanta for season 9 of American Idol and received the coveted Golden Ticket to Hollywood. As you may have noticed, Amber is a regular contributor to GreaterCharleston.com and even delivers our site intro video to the right, so you know we’re EXTRA proud of her. The Atlanta audition show aired Wednesday, January 13th on the FOX network (locally FOX 24). Amber competed in Atlanta against more than 10,000 hopefuls who traveled with friends and family from all parts of the country. Atlanta is one of 7 cities chosen as audition sites for the 2010 season, which premiered January 12th. Amber is among just 25 Hollywood finalists who received the Golden Ticket in Atlanta, joining 30 who advanced from the Boston auditions that aired last Tuesday. Boston also auditioned approximately 10,000 hopefuls. While American Idol audition shows continue for three more weeks covering 5 more cities, the Hollywood round airs starting February 9th, where Amber will continue to compete for the live rounds that begin February 23rd. Amber attended the Charleston County School of the Arts (SOA) for her first three years of high school, where she was a vocal major as a freshman and sophomore and theater major as a Junior. While at SOA Amber joined the school’s choir in a performance at Carnegie Hall, and later earned All-Star Cast honors from the South Carolina Theater Association for her performance in Steve Martin’s “WASP.” With her invitation to Hollywood, Amber will get the chance to perform on the Kodak Theater stage, home of the Oscars. Amber tells us she was in the final stages in the production of her first CD of all original songs, including her popular “White Dress” and “Last I’m Sorry,” and she wants us to know that the album will could be released as soon as late February. Since earning the Golden Ticket, Amber has begun performing around Greater Charleston, most notably at the Windjammer on the Isle of Palms. We’ll keep you posted of her upcoming local performances as she continues to prepare for all that awaits her budding music career. Grimball Gates is located on the Stono River (aka..Intercoastal Waterway) near the new Limehouse Bridge. Grimball Gates offers incredible marsh wetland and river views to property owners. This 95-acre park and boat dock is private and is accessibe only to property owners and accompanied guest from within the gated community. The trail is great for walking, jogging, strolling or a leisurely golf cart ride. Cars and trucks are prohibited on the path. Grimball Gates is the last of the “gated communities” in Charleston, with 119 total pristine properties (very few vacant lots remaining) and houses ranging from $450,000 to $1,500,000.
