FIG is an intimate neighborhood bistro serving a “seasonally inspired menu”. FIG focuses on the resources of the area to create a daily changing menu featuring Dayboat Seafood, an abundance of Local produce, and farm raised meats and poultry. We are an owner operated establishment, serving dinner M-TH from 6pm-11pm, and FRI and SAT from 6pm-Midnight.
Philosophy/Mission
We strive to be an unpretentious neighborhood restaurant, with professional service, a welcoming, comfortable atmosphere, and an affordable regional menu with honest and simple preparations.
The minimalist decor evokes a modern, yet comfortable feeling. Soothing earth tones with splashes of color , wooden bistro chairs, creative flower arrangements, long banquettes and community tables, all lend themselves to a vibrant social atmosphere.
Informed, & professional, yet warm & relaxed…..There is a sincere effort at FIG to educate our staff on all aspects of food and wine culture. The staff at FIG goes to great lengths to make everyone feel at home, and well taken care of.
Our food philosophy was born from the love of pure flavor. Using ingredients at their best, capturing the essence of the season, has been the FIG mantra from its inception. The kitchen at FIG goes through great lengths to procure the best products and prepare them with respect, creating menu items with simple appeal and elevated technique.

If you have photos on your computer, this is a MUST have software, and like all software we recommend, Picasa™ is absolutely free. It is quite simply the most fool-proof high-tech photo and video managment tool ever created, and it will handle simple photo editing that any octogenarian could master, and for most common edits, it’s more powerful than Photoshop™. And the fact that it is a Google product, you know you can trust it, and you know that it works. This software is the only product yet to be offered yet to earn Greater Charleston’s 5-Globe™ rating for it’s user-friendliness, power, sophistication, and ability to change the way you use your computer… for the better. And if you like saying “WOW,” you’re going to love this Picasa. Likewise, being a Google product, Picasa works seamlessly with GreaterCharleston.com… more on that later. Honestly, you won’t believe your eyes, and you won’t believe this program is free.

Cupcake
Cupcake, founded by Kristin Kuhlke, opened its doors in March 2006. Since then, she and her crew have enjoyed the spotlight not only of the local press but the likes of USA Today, Budget Travel magazine, Martha Stewart Radio, and the Ellen Degeneres website, which lauded the bakery’s Rocky Road cupcake.
Kristin tells her story this way:
“A year, a month, a week and a day.
Kristin Kuhlke”That’s how this all began. That’s the amount of time I lived in New York City. I moved up there looking for an adventure—after 10 years in Charleston, South Carolina—and I found it. I found so much more. I found answers to questions I thought did not have answers. I also found inspiration. I moved back to Charleston to continue my adventure. And then finally it came to me… it was cupcakes! One night over dinner and wine with my best friend, I finally said it out loud. I wanted to open a cupcake bakery. She knew I had something up my sleeve… Cheers!
“This was a brand new idea to the city of Charleston. Most of my friends thought I was crazy. I probably would have agreed! But it was a chance to incorporate a passion of mine—cooking and baking, which had always been just a hobby—with the desire to own and run my own business. I did the research, I read the books. I wanted to do this and I wanted to make it work. Would it be successful? No one could know… but I was ready to see where this would take me!
Team Cupcake, Charleston, SC”Thanks to another good friend, I found a great location, signed a lease, and it was real. And then there was the wisdom and help of many friends and family (literally blood, sweat and tears from my dad, Wild Bill) to get this all off the ground. I baked cupcakes for months and gave them away to friends. Some are family recipes that I have grown up with—the pumpkin cupcakes (my very favorite) are my Aunt Barbara’s recipe—while others were tweaked until we came up with something wonderful. A few months later, on March 18, 2006, cupcake opened its doors!
“It has been the experience of a lifetime and I thank everyone for that! Every day I get to wake up and decorate cupcakes, which are like tiny works of art to me. My staff and I work very hard to bring you the very best product we know how to make. We use only the best ingredients and buy organic when we can. All recipes are made from scratch, and with over 30 flavors to choose from there’s something for everyone! They bring smiles to people’s faces each and every day, which brings a smile to my heart! If there’s one thing I learned in New York City, it’s that the Lowcountry of Charleston, South Carolina is my home! I am blessed to be here, to be able to support my community, which in turn supports me.

Magnolia Gardens Stands Alone

The gardens at Magnolia Plantation are of such beauty and variety that they have brought tourists from around the world to view them since they were open to the public in the early 1870s. However, many parts of the gardens are much older, some sections more than 325 years old, making them the oldest unrestored gardens in America. As the plantation has stayed within the ownership of the same family for more than three centuries, each generation has added their own personal touch to the gardens, expanding and adding to their variety. Today there are various varieties of flowers from camellias, daffodils, to azalea’s and countless other species in bloom year round, with the climax of incredible beauty building towards the spring bloom.
We hope that you come and visit us so that you can experience how one family’s vision of creating order and beauty in an untamed new world has evolved over the centuries into the magnificent sprawling gardens that the public can enjoy today.*
