The Villages in St. John’s Woods established the benchmark in the creation of a low country life style community on Johns Island. This meticulously planned neighborhood features sensible and sustainable homes that are each unique in their architecture and colors. From quaint cottages , bungalows and Charleston singles there seems to be a style and size for singles, empty nesters and families. Home prices range from the $300k’s to the mid $500’s, and you won’t find any McMansions here.

The short trip to downtown Charleston (20 minutes) has made it a favorite choice for both professionals and retirees. It is a quick 30 minute ride to your favorite beach at Folly or Kiawah or just hang out at the pool where you are sure to be welcomed by an impromptu gathering of friends enjoying an afternoon barbecue discussing the last softball game. Lots of great people just sitting on their front porch rockers sippin’ sweet tea and saying “hey” to the walkers. It’s very Charleston!

The development of the Parkside and Woodside sections are complete and lots are now available in the Lakeside neighborhood with larger lots and the small lake as the site feature. There are preferred builders or you can bring your own. You can also take your time to begin building as there is no build out date requirements.

There are only a few places where the world rarely intrudes. One of them is Seabrook Island. Edged by 3.5 miles of wide, uncrowded beaches and pristine dunes along the South Carolina coast.

Seabrook began as a private island resort, but is becoming more of a community. Club members and their guests enjoy two championship golf courses, a tennis center, horseback riding, a fitness center and many other amenities. The beach and golf clubs have undergone extensive renovations and complete tear-downs and replacement to bring the amenity centers up to par. Yet, despite its peaceful seclusion, Seabrook Island is conveniently located less than 30 minutes from all the charms of Charleston, the south’s most romantic city.

Seabrook is an unspoiled island paradise that is home to a spectacular range of wildlife and a thriving ecosystem. Miles of natural beaches, relatively untouched by development. Don’t forget to visit Freshfields, located at the round-a-bout between Seabrook Island and Kiawah Island See more about Freshfields under the “Shopping” tab on GreaterCharleston.com.

Community

“The Enclave on Bohicket” on Johns Island, SC lies behind a private entrance, beyond the wrought iron gates and past the welcoming arms of a winding road through Live Oaks and sweet scented magnolias. On this 42 acre development, the hustle and bustle of modern life is forgotten. Privacy is assured. The estate-sized homesites take full advantage of thick, mature vegetation including palmetto, pines and mixed hardwoods to maintain atmosphere of this development. It still lays claim to abundant wildlife such as deer, wild turkey, and the elusive bobcat. Careful planning preserves the natural appeal of the development with its three lagoons and breathtaking marsh views. Elegantly designed homes, subject to an architectural review board, blend into the undisturbed natural beauty of the island. The large homesites provide lagoon views and community dock privileges on Bohicket Creek. “The Enclave on Bohicket” is an ideal location for a year-round residence or a seasonal retreat.

Gift Plantation is West of the Ashley River on rural Johns Island. Located off Chisholm Road as you come over the Stono River Bridge on Main Road from Hwy. 17 south. This ungated neighborhood has grand oak trees dripping with Spanish moss throughout and lies along the intracoastal waterway. A variety of homes are positioned on larger lots in this older community, however, new homes are popping up as lot owners begin to build their dream home. A pool, tennis courts, and community dock for fishing or crabbing are offered, but if you are lucky enough to own one of the waterfront lots, you can boat out to the Stono River from your own dock. Limehouse Landing is just a short drive to trailer your boat to the Stono River for an afternoon of boating fun. As an added note for families with school-aged children, this neighborhood is in the Johns Island school district.

The preserve is a real estate development specializing in luxury homes on an historic piece of Johns Island. Fenwick Plantation, the original home built on this site in 1730, still stands today as a reminder of the land’s rich history. At The Preserve, you can enjoy a new home, while embracing the country lifestyle that includes appreciation of both history and nature. To ensure the historical charm and natural beauty of the island remain intact, the homes and homesites have been carefully integrated into the sea island setting. Marsh savannas, a maritime forest, and Penny Creek create a stunning backdrop for these superb properties, while unique amenities such as community docks, nature trails, and a gazebo with fire pit help residents make the most of the rustic settings. Located just minutes from downtown Charleston, you won’t have to choose between a country lifestyle and modern convenience. You’ll feel miles from the everyday, yet minutes from everything. The Preserve is a 26-acre site developed with the help of Charleston city planners using a least disturbance policy to ensure the grand trees, beautiful marshland, and Penny Creek were protected for the enjoyment of all our residents. Giant oak trees, some up to 5 feet in diameter, stretch across forming lush, beautiful canopies. With 80 grand trees, and only 66 lots, these homes will be tucked among oaks, palmettos, cypress, etc. Although the site is zoned to support 200 homes, the development team chose to build fewer, single-family homes. Thirteen homes will be marsh front; the remaining homes will be built on interior lots.

Wild Dunes is a 1,600 acre, private destination, oceanfront resort and residential community occupying the northeast end of the Isle of Palms near Charleston. Though it is part of the City of Isle of Palms, its main gate off Palm Boulevard allows only residents, employees and invited guests to enter. Wild Dunes is zoned for 2,500 residences and due to its proximity to Charleston, the resort has a year-round population of approximately 500 families. Living in Wild Dunes is like living in a first-class vacation destination surrounded by a private country club. The gates at either end of Wild Dunes keep traffic to a minimum and turn the winding roads into restful parkways. For those who want to enjoy nature without sacrificing creature comforts, Wild Dunes has a wide variety of activities. Play a few sets of tennis, lunch at the club, enjoy a cocktail by the pool, relax in the sun on a sumptuous chaise lounge, or stroll along one of the prettiest beaches in the Carolinas. Everything is right there, well maintained and waiting for you to take advantage of it. Whether you are retired, looking for a change in lifestyle, considering a second home or looking for a new place to set down roots, Wild Dunes offers a country club lifestyle just minutes from historic Charleston. Close enough to commute, yet far enough removed to make you feel like you are on vacation.

If location is important to you, you’ll be hard pressed to find a better value than the Cline Homes at Cloudbreak Court. Located just over 5 minutes from Historic Downtown Charleston, Cloudbreak is a very rare opportunity. It doesn’t take much looking to realize new construction of this quality at these prices this close to downtown just doesn’t exist! In addition, you will find yourself those same 5-10 minutes away from the city’s regional medical center including MUSC and Roper Hospital and Charleston’s famous public beach, Folly Beach. And just around the corner are some impressive local amenities, including the Charleston Municipal Golf Course and James Island County Park, as well as the Stono Marina, and all the shopping and dining that makes life on James Island so convenient and fun. Life on Cloudbreak Court is not, however, just about it’s overall location. The small Cloudbreak community itself is a draw, where sidewalks and community fences and a neighborhood pond offer a streetscape from years gone by. If you like the idea of actually waving to your neighbor, Cloudbreak will be a dream community come true.

Surrounded by tidal marshes and the Intracoastal Waterway, Rushland Plantation is a community of 125 homesites woven into 500 private acres on Johns Island, just minutes from Historic Downtown Charleston, South Carolina. Several community docks and a pool and open-air pavilion on the Intracoastal Waterway enhance residents’ enjoyment of the surrounding tidal waters. Fishing, crabbing, boating and oyster roasts are part of daily life. Our parks, natural conservation areas, greenway trails, and freshwater lagoons provide additional opportunities to experience Lowcountry nature. A large variety of waterfowl and fauna make Rushland their home. And, we have created an award winning manmade bird habitat plan, home to a variety of winged visitors. Deep water, lagoon, and marsh view lots are available for sale and range from 1/3 acre to two acre estates. If you can not wait to call Rushland home, a limited number of spectacular Waterfront & Marshfront Custom Homes are also available for sale.

Beauty has a way of making you feel good by diverting your attention to something greater than the daily tasks you tend to. A grand oak with its Spanish moss swaying in the wind, a bed of perennials with its sensuous mix of colors and scents, the serenity of a pond with the wild grasses dancing around its perimeter – these are all scenes of beauty, all of which render enjoyment and enhance our lives.

In developing communities – the places in which we live – little consideration is generally given to those things that greatly enhance our home, which is more than the house itself, more than the lot that the house sits on. The neighborhood is our home.

Whitney Lake is about the neighborhood. It is about planning and designing the neighborhood in a manner that will make it a special place to live, a place you drive into and smile, a place you are proud and glad to call home.

Welcome! In the internet, “beta” simply means “sneak-preview,” with advanced opportunities to gain premium exposure as we perfect the system behind the scenes.

You now have the opportunity to be among the first visitors to submit your writing or business profile for featured placement, or to replace an existing profile, or to review existing business profiles to establish their ranking! To post your profile or writing, simply click Submit Here and fill in the blanks once you get there. It’s that easy! To review an existing profile, simply scroll to the bottom of that page and you’ll be able to click up to five stars! While registering as a user is not required for you to make your submission or write reviews, it will give you greater privileges, and it’s absolutely free, so we encourage you to register soon. For security reasons, we cannot give instant publishing or other site priveleges unless we can contact you and verify who you are, so you can trust registration is purely for the integrity and protection of the family-friendly content of GreaterCharleston.com, and nothing more. Registered users also have instant review/rating priveleges that automatically insert your screen name, so it can also make for a more enjoyable business reviewing effort. The Register link is on the right side of every page, or you can click here to register now. Likewise, you’ll want to register at the Gallery and at GreaterCharleston.tv for similar reasons. You can use the same username and password, or create new ones for each registration, but for security reasons we keep the databases separate so you will need to register for each that you intend to use for submissions. Once we know who you are, we give you increasing freedom and power to move around, and will eventually offer you contributing editor status, which is loaded with even more power and privileges… both in the site and around town! If you have any questions, feel free to email us at Submissions@GreaterCharleston.com anytime.

While we have our own team of writers and multi-media production folks who will be publishing articles, stories, and gallery albums in magazine format, we are also a publicly-driven publishing site. You may have heard the terms Wiki, open-source, and Web 2.0… well all of those aptly describe the organic strengths of this site. But few terms better describe GreaterCharleston.com than “totally free,” always and forever, with no limits to your publishing opportunities. Surf the menu again… we’re sure you’ll see categories where you’d like to be found.

Even now, all of your submissions will be searchable on Google, Yahoo, and all the other major search engines, and you’ll be able to start inviting your friends, your fans, and/or your clients to join others who will be commenting and/or reviewing your submissions. We will publish all business profiles, both those submitted by the public and those produced by our own staff, so if you represent a business be sure you submit as soon as possible so that your competition doesn’t gain all the early traffic. Cheers!
