The City of Goose Creek today is just a small part of what was settled as the St. James, Goose Creek Parish. This area has a rich colonial history, which is reflected in the names of current subdivisions such as Crowfield Plantation, Liberty Hall Plantation and the Oaks. The Goose Creek area became less prosperous before the Civil War, and was known largely as a collection of African-American settlements until the 1950s when the military began to invest in the area. The influx of new military and civilian personnel led to a re-birth of the area, and was the beginning of a new Goose Creek.

The City of Goose Creek was incorporated in 1961, and has continued to grow and develop as a residential community. Residents value the small-town atmosphere, quality schools and lower cost of living. There are a variety of housing options for every income level. Goose Creek residents live, work and raise their families surrounded by the rich historic and natural treasures of the low country. Goose Creek businesses include multi-national corporations, national retail chains and local “mom and pop” establishments. Goose Creek today is a community just beginning to realize its potential.

Goose Creek also boasts the highly regarded Crowfield Plantation community with homes ranging near $1M, and the success of Crowfield has sparked significant upper-middle income community developments across and adjacent to the Goose Creek city limits, primarily on the western side of Hwy. 52. There is also a healthy multi-cultural community in Goose Creek that is centered on the Red Bank Road corridor, east of Hwy. 52.

The Goose Creek area is home to many National and State Historic Sites, including the “Must See” St. James Church and Cypress Gardens on the swamps of the Cooper River basin (Busy Park), northeast of the city limits.
